JERRY LAWSON
Jerry Lawson was the inventor of first ever video game cartridges in the 70's , which were considered to be the golden period for gamers back in 80's to 90's when they used put their favorite game into their Nintendos , NES and then sometimes would get frustrated when their games would not run , which upon taking out the cartridge and upon putting it back , somehow magically would work (Hilarious isn't it :) ).
Those all golden childhood moments of joy were made possible by Jerry Lawson
He originally designed a cartridge system for placing and removing software cartidges for the Fairchild Computer System in the 70s that was later adopted by nearly every video game hardware manufacturer , until other sources such as cds ,dvds etc came into play.
Jerry Lawson was one of the few African American pioneers in invention and technology.
He grew up in a Jamaica housing project and went to Queens College and CCNY and later moved out to Silicon Valley where he was major part of hackers called the Homebrew Computer Club, which also included some of the big names of the current time like Steve Jobs and Steve Woznaik and the he worked for a company called Fairchild that developed the first home console that used cartridges.
According to him ,adversity was what drove him to succeed. The whole reason I did with games was because people said , "You can't do it" , he said. "I'm one of those guys, if you tell me I can't do something, I'll turn around and do it".
His valuable contributions were long ignored till late February this year(2011) , when the International Game Developer Association accredited him for his outstanding achievements and there even his old rivals , Atari co founder Al Acorn had nothing but praises to sing."When you do something for the first time , there is nothing to copy " said Acorn.
We all salute for his great contribution which was the the biggest step in video games , May his soul REST IN PEACE .

Although he was a video game pioneer, he was not interested in playing games, as he thought it had nothing to do with developing skills. His contributions go way beyond swappable cartridges.According to his family friend David Erhart, "Lawson continued building devices to control telescopes, lasers, tools, etc, up until the day he went to the hospital. His workbench had more tools than most people would even know what to do with, he taught me quite and I'll miss him sorely ".
